On 24 May 2017, the Basel Institute on Governance and the Anti-Corruption Commission of Bhutan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Both parties reconfirmed their mutual intention to continue to strengthen and promote their combined efforts to prevent and combat corruption in Bhutan.
Professor Mark Pieth on behalf of the Basel Institute and the German Institute for Compliance (DICO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in June 2017. The cooperation agreement foresees a range of joint projects being undertaken to address compliance themes relevant to the private sector, focusing particularly on preventive work. The agreement was signed at the DICO annual general meeting in Berlin where Professor Mark Pieth held a keynote speech.
The Corporate Governance Capacity Building Initiative for Malaysian SMEs, an effort of the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) in conjunction with the Basel Institute on Governance kicked off with a half–day conference on "stepping up corporate governance and anti-corruption practices", specifically in the SME sector on 20 July 2017. It focused on the importance of SMEs, the backbone of the Malaysian economy, to take ownership of compliance and corporate governance to ensure sustained competitiveness on the global market.
The Basel Institute has recently published its letter of commitment to the UN Global Compact and its Ten Principles. The Basel Institute has partnered with UNGC since 2013 in support of our shared goal of combating corruption. The letter of commitment is the Basel Institute’s second Communication on Engagement and describes activities and outcomes of our efforts in support of the UN Global Compact Principles, and in particular its tenth principle on corruption, from November 2015 through October 2017.

The Basel Institute on Governance is further strengthening its global reputation for independent and practice-oriented expertise in asset recovery. On March 29, Gretta Fenner, Managing Director the Basel Institute, signed an agreement of cooperation with Ecuador’s Attorney General. The objective of the collaboration is to assist and support the Attorney General’s Office in identifying, locating, seizing and repatriating illicit assets arising from acts of corruption or the laundering of assets to the detriment of the Ecuadorian State.
The decision that Jersey shall become a core donor to the Basel Institute’s International Centre for Asset Recovery (ICAR) for a three-year period has been signed by Jersey’s Treasury Minister on Friday 11 May 2018. With this decision, Jersey joins Liechtenstein, Switzerland and the United Kingdom in supporting the implementation of ICAR’s Operational Strategy which has been developed jointly with ICAR’s donors and partner countries.
There is a strong business case for Collective Action against corruption - and more and more companies, law enforcement agencies, international organisations and civil society representatives are willing to engage. Which is good, because we need all players around the table to achieve sustainable change.
These were key recurring messages during the Basel Institute's 3rd International Collective Action Conference, which took place on 14-15 November 2018 at the Volkshaus Basel, Switzerland.
The Basel Institute on Governance and Ecuador's Financial and Economic Analysis Unit (Unidad de Análisis Financiero y Económico, UAFE) have signed a Case Consultancy Agreement. The agreement, signed on 29 November during the Basel Institute's third mission to Quito, sets out general lines of mutual cooperation in areas related to the fight against corruption, money laundering and other financial crimes.
