Women leading the fight against financial crime – online discussion
An interactive discussion on career journeys and how training, education and peer communities open doors and expand impact
To mark International Women’s Day, the Basel Institute on Governance and the International Academy of Financial Crime Litigators are convening an interactive online discussion on women’s leadership in countering corruption and financial crime.
The event will open with welcome remarks from Elizabeth Ortega of ECO Strategic Communications, Co-Founder of the International Academy of Financial Crime Litigators.
Elizabeth Andersen, Executive Director of the Basel Institute on Governance, will moderate.
The session will unfold in two parts:
Part 1: Professional journeys and the power of opportunity
Invited speakers will share reflections on their career paths, challenges encountered and the role of specialised training and peer communities in shaping their professional development and impact. Speakers include:
- Two current participants in the Basel Institute’s Certificate of Advanced Studies programmes (names TBC).
- Anne-Claude Scheidegger, Senior Specialist, Asset Recovery, Basel Institute on Governance
- Professor Karen Woody, Professor of Law at Washington & Lee University School of Law
Part 2: Interactive dialogue
A moderated discussion with speakers and participants exploring:
- Career entry points
- Structural and cultural challenges especially affecting women
- Examples of education and mentorship that have been particularly valuable
We are particularly interested in the importance of scholarships and targeted support in expanding access to opportunity. The Academy and its Co-Founders are the first supporters of the Gretta Fenner Scholarship Fund. The Fund, and related crowdfunding campaign, was set up in honour of the Basel Institute's former Managing Director Gretta Fenner to expand access to high-quality education in anti-corruption and financial crime enforcement.
Join the conversation
This event is open to all engaged in – or interested in – countering corruption and financial crime. We particularly welcome Fellows of the International Academy of Financial Crime Litigators, partners of the Basel Institute on Governance, practitioners at all career stages, academics, as well as foundations and donors committed to strengthening the rule of law and expanding access to opportunity.
All participants are encouraged to join the conversation and share their perspectives.
