Manuel Alejandro Moncada Ponte joined the Basel Institute’s International Centre for Asset Recovery (ICAR) in Latin America in June 2021 and is currently Specialist, Asset Recovery. He is responsible primarily for legal research and support for asset recovery cases involving non-conviction based forfeiture mechanisms.
Manuel obtained his Bachelor of Law degree from the Universidad de Piura in Peru, where he gained experience at various private law firms and participated in workshops and specialised programmes on criminal procedure and criminal law. Since graduation, he has continued to pursue specialist skills and experience in investigating and prosecuting white-collar crime.
Before joining the Basel Institute, Manuel worked for three years as a Prosecutor’s Assistant in Peru’s Special Prosecutor's Office for Public Sector Corruption as part of a special investigation team focused on the Lava Jato corruption and money laundering complex of cases.
