How can trade data trace illegal flows of timber?
Corruption in the timber trade is a serious threat, economically and environmentally.
In this session of the Open Data Working Group, we will delve into research which uses commerce date to uncover illegal timber trade out of Peru, and learn about a new monitoring tool which aims to curb the impact of corruption in the timber industry. TimberStats is an interactive, data-driven platform to monitor trade and provide law enforcement agencies with a shortcut to help detect and stop illegal shipments.
This session of the will feature Camilo Pardo-Herrera, Senior Analyst at Terrorism, Transnational Crime and Corruption Centre (TraCCC) and Fred Ellis, Wildlife Trade Analyst at TRAFFIC.
The meeting will be held in English on Zoom. It is open to current members of the Countering Environmental Corruption Practitioners Forum and its Open Data Working Group, as well as those interested in joining.
