Daryna Gurinenko

Daryna joined the Basel Institute on Governance in August 2026 as a Programme Officer based in Kyiv. She supports the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Basel Institute’s programmes in Ukraine.

Daryna has 15 years of experience working with international organisations and Ukrainian public institutions, including in the areas of rule of law, justice and home affairs, and institutional reform.

Before joining the Basel Institute, Daryna spent more than five years with the European Union Advisory Mission Ukraine, where she supported the implementation of the Mission’s mandate in the area of civilian security sector reform and coordinated cooperation with EU justice and home affairs agencies. She also led donor coordination as a Senior Project Manager at the Reform Support Team at the Ministry of Education and Science.

Earlier in her career, Daryna spent nine years working in international law enforcement, including cooperation with Europol and Interpol.

Daryna holds a Master’s degree in International Law and English Translation from the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, as well as a Master’s degree in Psychology.

She has also completed specialised training in mediation, negotiation and dialogue skills for CSDP, as well as a CSDP orientation course at the European Security and Defence College.
