Specialist, Monitoring and Evaluation

Akbar Ali joined the Basel Institute on Governance in August 2026 as a Specialist, Monitoring and Evaluation, based in Indonesia. He is part of the Green Corruption team, supporting monitoring, evaluation and learning across the programme.

In his role, Akbar leads monitoring and evaluation for the Basel Institute’s Norway-funded International Climate and Forest Initiative (NICFI) project, which works across Indonesia, Peru and global activities. He helps project partners track progress, verify results and use evidence to identify lessons, strengthen implementation and communicate achievements.

Akbar is a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning specialist with more than 15 years of experience in development planning, programme management and monitoring, evaluation and learning across governance, climate change, sustainable landscapes, education and community development. He has extensive experience designing monitoring and evaluation systems, results frameworks and theories of change, conducting evaluations and strengthening organisational capacity to use evidence to improve programmes and policies.

Before joining the Basel Institute, Akbar worked with USAID, IFES, DAI, ZSL and other development organisations.
