Roundtable: Good governance and the just transition: implications for renewable energy companies
This invitation-only event during NYC Climate Week will bring together senior stakeholders from the renewable energy sector for a roundtable discussion on emerging corruption risks in the sector and their implications for a just transition.
The event will be framed around findings from a Basel Institute working paper produced by Mark Robinson, Executive Director of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and Maja de Vibe, SVP Sustainability, Governance and Compliance at Statkraft.
It will be moderated by the Basel Institute's President Peter Maurer. Alongside the report authors, the roundtable will also feature Helen Clark, Chair of EITI and former Prime Minister of New Zealand.
Roundtable discussion
The roundtable will focus on identifying opportunities for advancing collective industry action to tackle governance and corruption risks to ensure the goal of tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030 can be realised. It will discuss the linkages between good governance and a just transition by exploring the importance of achieving a transition that benefits communities and society at large while generating sustainable, long-term economic value.
It will also examine how weak governance and corruption could jeopardise this goal and will discuss how industry associations and companies can address these challenges to build trust with stakeholders, meet regulatory expectations and realise the ambition of a just transition.
The discussion will draw on lessons from the extractive industries to identify options for accelerating collective action in the renewable energy sector.
Logistics and registration
The event is organised by the TAI (Trust, Accountability and Inclusion) Collaborative with the Basel Institute on Governance. It will take place in hybrid format on Wednesday 25 September at 14:00 to 15:30 at a venue near Grand Central Station in New York.
