This is an interactive, web-based data platform developed to combat illegal timber trade by identifying significant inconsistencies in global trade records.\n\nFred Ellis, Wildlife Trade Analyst and Financial Specialist at TRAFFIC, will demonstrate the upgraded platform, Trade Discrepancy Analysis methods and show how they are used in practice. This will include case examples of how the tool helps customs officials, law enforcement and the financial sector identify companies at risk of timber smuggling, document fraud, tax evasion or trade-based money laundering.\n\nThe meeting is open to current members of the Countering Environmental Corruption Practitioners Forum and its Open Data Working Group, as well as those potentially interested in joining.
