Advancing the Indonesian Fight Against Corruption

This project addresses three of the most pressing issues in the ongoing efforts to combat endemic corruption in Indonesia:

  • uneven performance of the new regional Anti-Corruption Courts (ACC) that were created to replace a single centralised ACC;
  • a confused and inadequate legal framework for the protection of whistle-blowers and justice collaborators in corruption cases;
  • ineffective measures to address widespread corruption in the private sector and, more specifically, shortcomings in compliance regimes and internal protection for the whistleblowers.

This is an opportune time to address these issues because the Indonesian government has identified “effective prevention and eradication of corruption” as a national priority, beginning in 2019. To begin to achieve this goal, the Government enacted the National Strategy for the Prevention and Eradication of Corruption and announced that the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will lead its implementation.

The project’s three objectives respond directly to the Indonesian need for support in a broad range of anti-corruption activities.
