David SipTeam Leader Malawi / Senior Anti-Corruption Specialist
David Sip joined the Basel Institute in September 2019. Working within the International Centre for Asset Recovery, he is based in Malawi supporting the long-term Tackling Serious and Organised Corruption programme of UK Aid/Department for International Development. Previously he led the UK Aid/DFID supported Strengthening Action Against Corruption (STAAC) program in Ghana, the U.S. Department of State’s Justice Sector Support Program in Afghanistan, and the USAID Access to Justice Program in Iraq.
David has over 25 years of experience in the development and management of democracy, human rights, rule of law, and anticorruption programs, and has served in Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and West and Central Africa – for Adam Smith International, PAE, Tetra Tech/DPK, the American Bar Association and the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs. A Chicago-Calumet Region Midwest native, David received his Juris Doctor degree from Drake University in Iowa as is licensed to practise law in Minnesota.
